This 1800’s Gold Rush era cemetery is located just outside of Placerville and across the street from Vineyard House near Highway 49 and Coldstream Road. Known as an old settler’s cemetery, the Schieffer family has several family members buried here.
According to eyewitness reports, the spirit of an elderly woman in a long, flowing burgundy dress has been seen here for more than a century. With her hair pulled back tightly into a bun, she has been seen from the road side standing by the graves of the Schieffer family apparently trying to summon passersby to stop and visit with her. I wonder if anyone has ever stopped to take her up on the offer?
