Park Cemetery Fairmount, IN
On September 30, 1955, James Dean lost control of his Porsche and hit a tree near Cholame, California. Every year hundreds of his devoted fans make the pilgrimage to James Dean’s simple grave in this little cemetery near Fairmont, Indiana.
Many fans take home a handful of dirt from the site as a memento. Some of them have reported feeling Dean’s spirit here, and several of his loyal fans say they have even been in contact with him.
Truckers say they still hear the ghostly sounds of screeching tires as they pass the tree on Highway 46 where Dean lost control of his Porsche and died in California.
Fairmont is in central Indiana. You can get there by taking Exit 55 west to I-69. Park Cemetery is at County Road 150E.
