St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 – New Orleans, LA
Two unmarked, graffiti covered tombs here are said to contain the remains of Marie Laveau.
To this day, people leave voodoo offerings, mark an X for good luck, or knock three times to summon her spirit.
Many believe Laveau’s spirit is seen as a large black crow that flies over the cemetery. Others claim her spirit takes the form of a large black that roams through the cemetery. The grave of Marie Laveau is twenty-five feet he left of the entrance to St. Louis Cemetery No.1.
Some believe there were two Marie Laveaus – perhaps mother and daughter and one of them may be buried in St. Louis Cemetery No.2, also in New Orleans. The spirit is also said to walk down St. Ann Street wearing a long white dress.
I took the picture below on the same visit. This is believed to be the tomb of Marie Laveau. You can see the graffiti, flowers and miscellaneous stuff people have left here.
